I am a descendant of Temperance \"Tempie\" Ann Tipton who was born about 1857. Her father was a John Tipton. Can you tell me if she is a descendant of Col. Jonathan Tipton or not?

The United States has had a variety of cold and stormy weather in the past few months. I do hope you have been spared the worst of that weather.
Winter in Tipton, Iowa got off to a rough start with a blizzard just before Christmas.
Tipton is a thriving, small city in eastern Iowa forty miles west of Davenport and the Mississippi River; The University of Iowa is thirty-six miles to the west. At the intersection of State Hiways 38 & 130, Tipton is a few miles north of Interstate 80.

The 2012 TFAA meeting in Townsend, Tennessee was a resounding success.
An enthusiastic group of Tiptons gathered and spent the day learning about our family and its heritage while exchanging information on genealogy and history.
The members in attendance are best characterized by their excitement and sense of bonding among Tiptons. The gathering included people from Idaho, Utah, Louisiana, Alabama, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.

The Tipton Family Singers have been performing successfully for years throughout the Southeast United States. The Group was started by Virginia and her late husband Jack Tipton. The Tiptons are based in Evening Shade, Arkansas.

Coincidentally, The Tiptons will be performing at Dollywood on October 6th as the Tipton Family Association meets. For any who would wish to see them at Dollywood, they are performing at 10am, 11:30, 1pm and 2:30 in the Valley Theater. Dollywood is in Pigeon Forge twenty miles east of Townsend.

Greetings from Your Tipton Family Association of America!
The TFAA 2012 meeting is scheduled to be held October 6th at the Talley Ho Inn, 8314 State Hiway 73 in Townsend, Tennessee.
The highlight of our program will be “How the Tiptons Played a Part in the Early Mountain Life of Cades Cove” presented by Lendel Abbott whose parents resided in Cades Cove until about three months before he was born. Growing up, Lendel spent much time in the Cove with his grandfather, John ‘Gull’ Tipton. Lendel knows as much about Cades Cove as any man living. In addition to his presentation, he has ‘hog eye’ rifles belonging to the Tiptons, the plats for William Tipton’s land grants in the Cove and other Tipton memorabilia from that era.

Following the death of Colonel John Tipton on 18 August 1813, Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter of condolences to Colonel John’s son, John Tipton II, dated September 14th, 1813. It was a great honor for the author of the Declaration of Independence and former President to recognize Colonel John’s passing.

Greetings to All!
Response to the last TFAA newsletter was wonderful. Many emails from Tipton family and descendants all over the country came in. We have over 150 addresses in our email distribution lists. My thanks to everyone who forwarded the newsletter. Dozens of new people are being informed of the family association and its goals.
Most of the funding needed to launch the TFAA website is in hand. We need another two hundred dollars.
